Nanocomposites based on polymers and magnetite occupy a significant place in unique scientific research and advanced engineering solutions due to their exceptional properties. Thus, functionalized magnetosensitive NCs based on Fe3O4 and ?-CD are actively developed in various versions and are promising for many new topical applications in medicine, ecology, catalysis, sensors, medical, chemical and environmental analysis, radiation safety, capable of forming host-guest inclusion complexes, etc.
The aim of the work is to study the structural properties of the material based on single-domain magnetite, ?-cyclodextrin and polyurethane, depending on the content of components in the nanocomposite. Achieving the goal will allow expanding model ideas regarding the structure of the nanostructured material and justifying the possibilities of optimization for targeted use, for example, in the selective removal of strontium ions from aqueous solutions.
A new magnetically sensitive sorption polymer composite material (Fe3O4/?-CD/PU NC) was obtained by modifying the surface of nanosized single-domain magnetite with a ?-cyclodextrin-containing polymer. The morphology of the NC surface was studied by scanning and transmission electron microscopy (SEM and TEM, respectively).
The mass fraction of chemical elements was determined by X-ray microanalysis. The results of spectrometric analysis of the surface confirmed the compliance of the material with the composition Fe3O4/?-CD/PU and its possible active sorption sites were found: ?-CD torus molecules, urethane fragments of the structured network of crosslinking agent molecules, namely C=O and N–H bonds and Fe–OH groups of magnetite, available for interaction with toxic molecules, ions, nanoparticles of the appropriate size and surface state.
The nanostructured hybrid composite Fe3O4/?-CD/PU proved to be a non-swelling material with balanced mechanical strength, which does not collapse upon prolonged contact with weakly acidic solutions, is insoluble in water and many organic solvents, has a high affinity for the removal of toxic ions and is characterized by good kinetic parameters of sorption.
